Monday Mercies started as a section - just an experiment, on the substack Galaxy Glasses. You can still view the full archive of a year and a half of mercy posts there!
Mercies grew out of an assignment for a class I took with author Luis Alberto Urrea, who pushed us to broaden our view of what constituted writing, and also to consider the ways that words rubbed against each other - the resonances, or shadows of each word, sentence, phrase, story. You can read more about this in my original post introducing Monday Mercies here.
I made a decision early on to try to include one mercy I’d written, and one from another person in each post. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to sustain it. But somehow it happened. We made a full year of Mercies, which I celebrated in this post.
However, after a year and a half it became increasingly clear that Mercies were different from the main content of Galaxy Glasses, and that it was time for them to branch off. In December of 2024 we introduced the Monday Mercies Substack, with extra options for paid subscribers. We’ll see where it goes from here!
